The new measure is designed to help prevent the use of fraudulent "burner phones" in scams.
7월 6일부터 휴대폰을 새로 개통하거나 번호이동을 할 때 안면인증이 단계적으로 적용됩니다.
신분증 사진과 실제 얼굴을 비교해 본인 여부를 확인하는 방식으로, 대포폰 개통과 보이스피싱을 줄이기 위해 도입됐습니다.
Beginning July 6, facial verification will be introduced in phases for people activating a new mobile phone line or transferring their existing number to a new carrier.
The system compares the photo on an official ID with the person's actual face to confirm their identity. The goal is to reduce the illegal registration of phones used for voice phishing and other forms of fraud.
다만 안면인증이 의무는 아닙니다.
원하지 않는 경우에는 모바일 신분증이나 당일 발급한 주민등록초본으로도 본인 확인이 가능합니다.
기기만 변경하는 기존 가입자는 이번 적용 대상에서 제외됩니다.
However, facial verification is not mandatory.
Those who choose not to use it can still verify their identity with a mobile digital ID or a certified copy of their resident registration issued on the same day.
Existing customers who are only changing their device without opening a new line or transferring their number are not affected.
정부는 안면인증 과정에서 얼굴 정보는 저장되지 않고 인증 결과만 기록된다고 설명했습니다.
또 인증 실패 사례를 지속적으로 개선하며 보안과 정확도를 함께 높여갈 계획입니다.
The government has stated that facial data will not be stored. Only the verification result will be recorded.
Officials also plan to continue improving the system to reduce authentication errors while strengthening both security and accuracy.
